Math Blog Post

This week in math class we learned how to find the perimeter, circumference, and area. We learned how to find the area of triangles, trapezoids, rectangles, parallelograms, squares, irregular, and composite figures. For the perimeter, I use the formula P=L+W+L+W. Surprisingly this is the only step. Adding. To find the area of a triangle you use the formula of A= ½(base × height). plug in your numbers and the answer always has to be in units squared or squared. Remember this “No Naked Numbers.” Then to find the area of a trapiziod use this formula of A=½ h (base1+base2). Again you plug in your numbers. No Naked Numbers. To find the area of a parallelogram, square and rectangle you use the same formula of A=B*H. No Naked Numbers. For the area of an irregular or composite figure  you use the formula of A=B×H if there is a square, rectangle, or parallelogram involved. If there is a half circle you use the formula of A= ½ pi*r². You plug in your numbers and no naked numbers.

Domos!!

My new favorite character is Domo Kun. Have you ever heard of him? Domo Kun is a little, brown, thing that hatched from an egg. He loves to watch TV. He often daydreams and does not pay attention. You don’t want to make him upset because if you do he will let out explosive farts.

The Battle of Marathon

The battle of Marathon took place in the plains of Marathon. It was us against the Athenians. We had 20,000 solders compared to the Athenians, who only had 10,000 solders. Days and days went by while we waited for the Athenians. But those Athenians didn’t take our bait. They must of known it was too dangerous for them, so

they chickened out. So we decided to sail south and attack then directly in Athens. As we got onto the ships we realized we had made a big mistake. The Athenians charged down from the hills. They caught us in the water while we waited to get on board the ships. We were not able to attack, so we were easily defeated. I noticed Pheideppides running to get help from the Spartans. They never showed up. They say that he ran over 200 miles to ask for help.

The smell of the battle was sweat and the ocean breeze. We were sweating after a long battle. Who wouldn’t be tired? The ocean breeze was so fresh. The taste of it was bloody. The salty taste of Athenian and Persian blood. All you could hear were screams. Screams everywhere. The feel was pain. The spears jabbing into our flesh. It was great pain. What I saw was horrifying. Blood, dead bodies, angry solders, sweat.

Volunteer Work

This is part of the Edublog Challenge number six which asked to look for volunteer work in our community. I found an organization that I would like to volunteer in South Monterey County called Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP). They find homes for homeless animals, find foster homes, work with pet behavior, and the veterinary work. This organization is important to me because I love animals and one day become a vet. I like to care for them and take care of their needs like feeding, groo

ming, clean up. What I get in return when volunteering is getting the satisfaction with myself for helping animals and knowing that I have helped it. If you would like to volunteer click here. Volunteers over the age of 18 get to become foster parents, animal transporters which means that they take them to the vet, adoption site, and a lot more activities. The volunteers 12-18 get to do cat care, office work, and more.

Spartan Letter Home

Dear Mom and Dad, I wanted let you know that I am OK. I am very pleased to be a Spartan. Being raised here with all the training in sports has made me healthy person. This means that my son will become one of the best Spartan warriors. My teachers have taught me how to do chores around the house.  I have my own acres of land. With all the Spartan men in the assembly, we have been able to keep everybody out so they would not question us. We have also been able to keep the helots under control. I love it here where mighty Spartan soldiers can represent us in battle.

Those dumb Athenians spend so much time teaching them thing after thing such as art, sports, music, science, math, and singing. Here we can get as much land as we want. Their democracy government will not last long at least not as long as our oligarchy government will. We are very stable with our government that nobody could face us in battle.  I feel so happy for being here in the great land of Sparta with our great warriors. Bye.

Love, Sofia

Facebook!!

You may be wondering what this is, right? The assignment I had this week was to create a fake Facebook page about myself, 10 years from now. On the page above there is a screen shot of my fake Facebook page. There is conversation going on with my friends ten years from now. It was really fun making it because we got to personalize it with the pictures of my friends (with their permission of course), the statuses, the comments, the interest, and a whole bunch of more things. The conversations shown above are probabley ones that we could have in ten years.

I have many plans for myself in the next ten years. My plans are to graduate college, volunteer at animal shelters and other places(stated above on my Facebook page), go to college, and my hobbies would probably be painting, traveling, and singing. I put single because I think that they would distract me from studying and college work. I could have one after I graduate or something like that. I plan to stay close to my friends that I have now and also make new friends that I make in the future. I would love to travel around the world and visit different places.

My New Blogroll

Hey there, I have added more people to my blog roll. This is part of the Edublog Challenge for this week. I have made two new categories for my blogroll. The first one is called Classmates. Under that one I put five of my friends from my class. This includes Adi, Gisela, Leslie, Breeyana, and Maribel. I chose them because they are my friends. I also chose them because I really like their blogs and blog post. The other column is called My Favorites. There are five of my favorite blogs are there. There is Em’s Canvas from USA. There is Jessie from USA. Cassy is from Canada. Sarah from Canada. Last but not least is Blowfly who is from Canada. I also like their blogs and blog post. That is the people that I put on my blogroll.

Blog Challenge #2

Today I made some comments on five different blog. This is part of the Edublog Challenge number four. In each comment I asked five questions. I visited Jessie from USA, Cassy from Canada, Billy from South Korea, Sarah from Canada, and Aimee from Canada. I asked them all the same questions. If you would like to read them press two. Just Kidding. Just keep on reading if you want to know. Hi ______, I am in Mr. Miller’s 6th grade class. I was wondering….
1. How is the climate in your town/city?
2. Does it snow around were you live?
3. Is there a famous landmark where you live or near by?
4. What kind of food is popular were you live?
5. What is your favorite subject in school?

I will check up on them in a couple of days to see if they respond. Until next time, bye!!

This Week In Math

This week in math we have been reviewing all of our math standards. If your wondering it is because we were going to take our math benchmarks. The test has over sixty questions. That’s a pretty long test. So after we prepared and studied night after night, we took that benchmark. It covered standards from probability to finding the circumference of objects. So far this is our third day working on it. Some of the questions are hard to understand but after you read it more than one time you finally get it. We also learned hot to code and restate the question to make it easier. That is what we did in math this week.

Florida Fog

Hey! Today in Science class me and my partner Gisela carefully examined some pictures that showed some fog going over some buildings like mountains. We have determined that this photo is real and that this fog was caused by the coolness of the water and the hotness of the land then that causes it rise and cause fog. This happens because of the differences of the temperature and what is happening all around it. So as you can see we really can’t beleive what we are seeing but it is true.

Here is a picture Florida clearly showing the fog traveling on top of the buildings.

This picture was taken by a man in a helicopter.
